Migration guideMigration Checklist

Migration checklist

What to prepare before a migration, what to check at each decision, and what to do before and after you go live.

Use this checklist alongside Migrate to Documentation.AI. Each item is short, and each links to the details where you need them.

Before you start

  • You own the site, or its owner has given you permission to copy it.
  • You have the Editor or Admin role in the organization that owns your Documentation.AI project.
  • Every plan includes preview sites, so you can check the result before it goes live.
  • The migrator is installed. See Install the migrator.
  • You know how you want to deliver: without Git, or with Git. See Choose how to deliver.
  • If you migrate with Git, your project's repository is cloned on your computer and you can push to it.
  • You have picked a template. See Templates.
  • Your team knows to stop editing the old site during the migration, so no new change is left behind.

At each decision

Go live

  • Merge the migration branch. See Go live.
  • Connect your domain. See Custom Domain Setup, or Custom Subpath Setup if your docs live under a path such as /docs.
  • Open a few old page addresses and check that they reach the right pages.

After you go live

  • Keep your old site online until your domain points to Documentation.AI.
  • Update links to your documentation in your product, emails, and help articles.
  • Delete the migration branch when you no longer need it. See Branches and previews.
